Sinking Sands

A Poem on Dissociation and Identity

How can I explain this affliction?
Arguing with myself has become an addiction.
Tear apart my mind, this brain is on fire,
Afraid of what I’ll find, which voice is the liar?

Look in the mirror,
It’s still so unclear,
Which version is here?

Swallowed whole by the sinking sands.
Contemplate | Don’t dissociate | I see your face —
But I don’t relate

Running out of time, put the mask back on,
Get the persona right,
and they won’t know you’re gone.

Another tragedy of this reality,
I lost my identity.
I’m just not me today,
But that’s okay…
Maybe they’ll love you anyway?

We’ll see tomorrow where our identity stands,
One day you’ll make it out of the sinking sands.
